ruby lewis,

Atlanta-based acrylic painter

I was born with a connective tissue disorder called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome that requires me to get creative in how I navigate reality. My paintings are experiments in energy flow, from mind to body to canvas to all.

Art is play—an exercise in articulation.

My art has no intended direction. Each canvas is rotated frequently and elements often hold different messages depending on orientation.

A lot of my work is finger-painted. Brushes and tools help me out with details but I love getting as close to my pieces as I can. I've always had severe sensory difficulties and finger painting is a tactile challenge that yields honest, personal, beautiful results.
